I have a number of installation, display and performance issues with my new X-15A-2 SE addon. Could you help me troubleshooting my problems?
If you're experiencing many issues with your new X-15A-2 SE addon, please read carefully the information provided in the "Getting Started" section.
If you still cannot solve your issue(s) after reading the documentation, including the present FAQ section, please consider the followings:
- Is your simulation platform running smoothly on your system? If not, this might be a simulator issue. Please review your installation instructions carefully and reinstall your simulator if necessary.
- Did you install the latest service packs for your simulator? The X-15A-2 SE addon is compatible with Microsoft® Flight Simulator X with Acceleration Expansion Pack (or Flight Simulator X Gold fully installed) and Lockheed® Martin Prepar3D® v4/v3/v2/v1 only. Make sure the latest service packs, if any, are installed.
- Is the X-15A-2 SE addon the only add-on aircraft installed on your computer that is experiencing or causing the issue(s)? If not, the addon is not causing the issue(s).
- Do you have the latest version of the X-15A-2 SE addon? Please visit our "Downloads" page to check for new patches or updates for your addon.
- Did you install the correct version of the X-15A-2 SE addon for your simulation platform? Make sure that you install the correct addon version for your simulation platform. Because of differences between simulation platforms, the installers are not interchangeable. Refer to "Package Description".
- If you are using FSX SP2, did you install the Acceleration Expansion Pack? Please install the AEP.
- Is your version of DirectX® compatible with your simulation platform and video card? If you are using FSX/FSX Steam®, uncheck the "DirectX® 10 preview" option box in the FSX "Settings - Display " page. FSX seems to perform better under DirectX® 9. Prepar3D® v2 and later requires DirectX® 11 (and a DirectX® 11-compatible video card).
- If you are using FSX/FSX Steam®, is the "Light bloom" option selected in the FSX display settings page? While this should not cause an issue in the current software version, try unchecking the "Light bloom" option box in the FSX display settings page. This may also improve your frame rate. Refer to "Recommended Settings for Flight Simulator X".
- Can you actually see at least two X-15A-2 SE aircraft in the "Select Aircraft" (or "Select Vehicle") page? If not, the addon is not installed properly or there is a display or compatibility issue. Refer to "Compatibility, Performance and Settings". Make sure you have the correct settings for your simulation platform.
- Can you select/load the X-15A-2 SE aircraft in the simulator (at the start of a new flight)? If not, the addon is not properly installed or there is a display or compatibility issue. Refer to "Compatibility, Performance and Settings". Also some third-party addons or FS utilities may interfere with the correct installation of the X-15A-2 SE addon. These programs may also alter the appearance of your add-on aircraft by modifying the textures and the materials in the model files. If the different X-15A-2 aircraft variations are correctly displayed in the "Select Aircraft" page but you are unable to select any one of them, or worse if selecting them causes FSX to crash, suspect such third-party programs. Remove these programs to solve the issue.
- Do you see the X-15A-2 SE aircraft in the spot plane view? If the addon is properly installed and loaded and you don't see the aircraft in the spot plane view, there is a display or compatibility issue. Refer to "Compatibility, Performance and Settings". Make sure you have the correct settings for your simulation platform.
- Do you see the X-15A-2 SE virtual cockpit? If the addon is properly installed and loaded and you don't see the aircraft in the spot plane view and there is no virtual cockpit, there is a display or compatibility issue. Refer to "Compatibility, Performance and Settings". Make sure you have the correct settings for your simulation platform. If you see the aircraft in the spot plane view and there is no cockpit, make sure you are in the virtual cockpit view ("F9" on your keyboard).
- Did you try resetting the flight or reloading the X-15A-2 SE aircraft? Sometimes, it works.
- Did you install the latest service packs for your Windows® operating system? Make sure your Windows® operating system is up to date. Windows® 10/8.1/8/7 or later is required to install and fly this addon. We are sorry we cannot provide support for this addon if installed under Windows® VistaTM or Windows® XP®.
- Did you install the latest driver for your video card (for your operating system)? Sometimes, it solves display issues.
- Did you try tweaking your parameters in the simulator, especially your display settings? If you experience reduced frame rate, lower your display settings. Reducing the traffic and weather settings may also improve the overall system performance. Refer to "Compatibility, Performance and Settings".
- Do you suspect the X-15A-2 SE installer file you downloaded from our website to be corrupted? You can try downloading the latest version of the software from our website and reinstalling the addon. You will need to login to your user account.
- Do you have the minimum system requirements? You may need a new computer or video card (especially with Prepar3D®). Refer to "Minimum System Requirements".
Note to Prepar3D® v4 Users
The X-15A-2 Special Edition v2.0 addon now includes a native version (labeled v2.01) for the new 64-bit Prepar3D® v4 simulation platform.
A special installer for Prepar3D® v4 is available from our "Downloads" section on our website. The update is free for registered users.
This updated version contains 64-bit DLLs and will not work in previous versions of Prepar3D® (nor in FSX).
What’s new in v2.01 for Prepar3D® v4:
- New 64-bit sound DLL compatible with the new simulation platform
- New special effects optimized for the latest versions of Prepar3D®
- A revised ignition system to solve engine start issues encountered in Prepar3D®
- An improved flight model for better stability at high velocities and with the SAS engaged (autopilot)
- A revised 280-page utility flight manual
All other features are the same as in previous versions.
Note to FSX: Steam® Edition Users
- Please note that FSX: Steam® Edition is installed in a different way to the boxed version and occupies a different location on your computer. With the standard installer for FSX, you will need to specify a different path/root folder during the installation process to deploy the addon into FSX: Steam® Edition (by default: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX").
- Also, with the standard installer, you will need to copy the saved flights from the "C:\Users\your name\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files” folder to your "C:\Users\your name\Documents\Flight Simulator X - Steam Edition Files” folder. This is because FSX: Steam® Edition uses a different folder to store your saved flights.
- For these reasons, we recommend using the special installer for FSX: Steam® Edition.
