The engine compartment.

The engine compartment, in the extreme aft end of the fuselage, houses the tubular steel engine mount which supports the engine and turbopump.

The engine compartment is completely isolated from the airframe by a mono-firewall. A large access door is provided in the forward end of the engine compartment for access to the engine compartment from the hydrogen peroxide storage tank area.

The engine compartment also houses the instrumentation pick-offs, fire detection system sensors, and helium release line. A fire seal closes out the compartment and protects against the entry of exhaust gases and expelled propellants into the engine compartment.
