Creating a Flight in Flight Simulator X

"Free Flight" page in Flight Simulator X.

1. Select the FREE FLIGHT option in the menu at left.

2. On the "Free Flight" page, click CHANGE under "Current Aircraft" (1) to open the "Select Aircraft" page.

3. On the "Select Aircraft" page, enter/select the followings:

1. Aircraft manufacturer – NORTH AMERICAN AVIATION.
2. Publisher – XTREME PROTOTYPES, INC.
3. Aircraft type – ALL.
4. Aircraft Model – X-15A-2 ROCKET PLANE.
5. Variation – CLEAN WHITE VERSION (CIRCA 1967) – or any other available version of your choice.
   
   
4. Click OK to exit the "Select Aircraft" page.
   
   
5. On the "Free Flight" page, click CHANGE under "Selected Weather" (3) to open the "Weather" page.
   
   
6. On the "Weather" page, select USER-DEFINED WEATHER, then click the CUSTOMIZE... button.
   
   
7. On the "Customized Weather" page, enter the following conditions:

1. Clouds – CLEAR.
2. Precipitation – NONE.
3. Visibility – 40 MI / 64 KM or UNLIMITED.
4. Wind Speed – MODERATE (16 KTS).
5. Wind Direction – 210°.
   
   
8. Click OK twice to close both "Weather" pages.
   
   
9. On the "Free Flight" page, click CHANGE under "Current Time and Season" (4).
   
   
10. On the "Select Time and Season" page, set "Local Time" to: 08:12:00.
    
    
11. On the "Select Time and Season" page, set date to: JULY 8, 1965.
    
    
12. Click OK to close the "Select Time ans Season" page.
    
    
13. On the "Free Flight" page, just above the aircraft preview window, click on the FLIGHT PLANNER button.

14. On the "Flight Planner" page, under the "Create" tab, enter/select:

1. Departure location – ELY (KELY), RUNWAY 18 (Ely – KELY, Nevada, United States, Runway 18).
2. Destination – EDWARDS AFB (KEDW) (Edwards Air Force Base - KEDW, California, United States).
3. Flight plan type – VFR.
4. Routing – Direct - GPS.
   
   
15. Click the FIND ROUTE button.
    
    
16. Under the "Edit" tab, enter: Cruising Altitude – 45,000 feet.
    
    
17. Click OK to save your flight plan.
    
    
18. Click OK to close the "Flight Planner" page. Answer YES when asked if you want the simulator to move your aircraft to the selected airport.
    
    
19. On the "Free Flight" page, just above the aircraft preview window, click the SAVE... button to save your flight. Name this flight: X-15A-2 SE Ely Station to Edwards AFB.
    
    
20. On the "Free Flight" page, click the FLY NOW! button to start your flight.

Note: You can also access the "Select Aircraft", "Customized Weather", "Select Time and Season" and "Flight Planner" pages from the top menu bar (under the "Flights", "Aircraft" and "Worlds" menu items).

You are now ready to fly. Proceed to "Exterior Inspection".
